Showmax Now Free to All

The popular video on demand streaming service, Showmax, launched an ad-supported streaming service that offers a selection of both international and local series, movies and sporting highlights free of charge.   The service will be available via the Showmax website or mobile app , and does not require sign-up or any personal details to be provided.

Users of the new ShowmaxFree service will not have access to the full Showmax library but allows users stream selected shows with ads, and limited functionality.  Unlike the Showmax 14-day free trial with full functionality and the complete library, the free service can be used indefinitely and without signing up.  “Downloads aren’t available but you can watch online anytime, on any screen. No sign up or billing details required,” it said.

In terms of content available on the new free service, Showmax said the free catalogue contains a collection of hand-picked shows, including “early seasons of much-loved favourites”, as well as selected local and international series and movies.

Showmax said that it will also offer sports highlights and “occasional live matches”.

To activate your free streaming on mobile:

  • Download and install the latest version of the Showmax app;
  • Open the Showmax app and tap on the “more” menu icon;
  • Switch on free mode;
  • You will be automatically redirected to the home screen where you can then start watching free shows.

On laptop or PC:

  • Go to free catalogue and start watching;
