Several trucks were set alight on the R59 near Alberton in Gauteng on Thursday night, the Ekurhuleni metro police department (EMPD) said.
EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Kobeli Mokheseng said the incident happened at around 11pm on Thursday.
Mokheseng said the scene was only cleared around 7am on Friday.
The driver of the truck reported to his company that five armed men forced him to stop as he approached the R59 offramp. He saw lights and at first thought it might be an accident. The driver and his assistant driver managed to run away and hide in the bushes. As they run away the truck was set alight. According to the driver, another 4 trucks were torched at the same scene.
No further information is available as yet. Gauteng police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo said a statement would be released during the day.
