A 45-year-old male nurse, Matthew W, tested positive for the Coronavirus over a week after receiving the Pfizer vaccine. An affiliate of ABC news reported on the case on Tuesday.
Matthew, who works as a nurse at two different local hospitals in California, on 18 December posted on Facebook that he had received the Pfizer vaccine, saying that his arm was sore for a day but that he suffered no other side-effects.
Nurse Matthew became sick just six days later on Christmas eve while working a shift in the Covid-19 unit. His first symptoms were chills and muscle aches with fatigues. Matthew W went to a drive-up hospital testing site and tested positive for the Covid-19 virus that after Christmas.
Christian Ramers, who is an infectious disease specialist with the Family Health Centres of San Diego, however said that the scenario was not unexpected.
“We know from the vaccine clinical trials it’s going to take about 10 to 14 days for you to start to develop protection from the virus,” said Ramers.
