Nine people caught speeding

Nine, including a doctor was caught speeding in Elsburg and Bedfordview this weekend.

A 33-year old male Medical Doctor in a VW Golf GTI hatchback, who seemed to be economic with the truth, was this morning 18 October at 08:36, arrested when clocked 180km/h on the N12 freeway towards westbound near Germiston off-ramp, in Bedfordview area. The driver alleged that he was on call and mentioned three far apart private with public hospitals before he was handcuffed and took to Bedfordview police station. Between 05:00 and 10:00, five more males and female speedsters between the ages of 27 and 43, citing excuses like siblings giving birth, attending funerals, late for meetings in Pietermaritzburg, rushing home and performing informant duties, suffered the same fate on this 120km/h zone, when caught traveling at 163, 164×2, 167 and 170km/h respectively.

Meanwhile, yesterday morning, 17 October, in Elsburg area between 05:00 and 10:00, on the N17 freeway direction eastbound by Guthrie bridge, three male motorists who are 38, 39 and 42-years of age, caught doing 162, 175 and 180 on that 120km/h stretch of the expressway, was apprehended and escorted to Elsburg police station, after their reasons for excessive speeding were late to workx2 and rushing to their business places.

All the arrested, facing charges of reckless and negligent driving, will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
