South African legend dies – Sally Vaughn

Another South African legend dies. Sally Vaughn, the South African country legend has died. Her family in the United States released a statement on Facebook to announce her passing.  She died peacefully in her sleep last night. Tributes and messages of condolences have been pouring in for the much loved and admired singer.  “We know how much everyone loves our mom Sally Vaughn. On behalf of my family and I we ask that you respect our privacy at this time. We will update you accordingly, when the time is right. Please be respectful and do not share opinions, or private correspondence on this or any other public platform. Thank you.”

Known affectionately as Mamma Country, she was an integral artist in the Country Legends group and became famous for hits such as Glory Glory Hallelujah, The Teddy Bear song, and I was the other woman.  She was 77 years old and has been struggling with heart disease.  She eventually had only 20% of her heart function left. Her last concert was on 24 February 2019 at Sun City.

Many artists described het as a bubbly, friendly and lively personality with a wonderful and sometimes naughty sense of humor.  Vaughn moved to Richmond in the State of Virginia, USA where she stayed with her eldest daughter for the past 18 months.

Vaughn sent a voice note to colleague and friend Manie Jackson advising him to take of his voice and in May a message was of gratitude to all South African fans. Sally leaves behind her 6 children, grandchildren, friends, and many admirers.  Our Hearfelt condolences go out to the family.
