Newborn baby’s face cut during emergency C-section

This time it is not in South Africa.  It’s one of the worst things to ever experience as a new parent: A family in Denver, in the United States (US) is demanding answers from a local hospital, after their newborn daughter ended up receiving a cut on her face during an emergency C-section.

The baby’s mother Reazjhana Williams has told FOX31, a local news outlet that her child was born last week at Denver Health and the original plan was to deliver naturally.

Williams said when she got to the hospital, they gave her a pill to speed up her labour – the next thing she knew, she was being rushed to undergo an emergency C-section.

“They said our baby made a sudden movement and they couldn’t hear her heartbeat or find it and they took her into an immediate C-section,” her husband and the baby’s father Damarqus Williams said.

According to the couple, the baby then came out with a massive cut on her face that required 13 stitches.

“They said her face was close to the placenta wall,” the baby’s father is quoted as having said.

His wife said at first, they tried to be understanding – but that there were things that just weren’t adding up, particularly pertaining to the cut.

“I’ve never heard of anybody having to deal with their baby’s face looking like this after a C-section,” she said.

WHAT IS THE HOSPITAL SAYING ABOUT THE C-SECTION?

The Williams family is weighing their legal options and considering taking action against the Denver facility for the C-section gone wrong.

In a brief statement, the hospital has reacted saying it has been engaging the Williams family – but gave no further details.

“Denver Health has been in touch with the family directly. While this is a known medical complication in emergency C-sections, our focus is always on providing care in the best interest of the mother and child. At Denver Health, the safety and well-being of our patients is our number one priority.”
