Louis Oosthuizen’s disappointment at The Open

Louis Oosthuizen’s wait for a second major championship continues after he fell away on Sunday at the Open Championship.

The South African was leading heading into the final round at Royal St George’s but a one-over-par 71 on Sunday saw him finish in a tie for third.

Instead, the honours went to American Collin Morikawa while Jordan Spieth finished second.

It was a bitterly disappointing finish for Oosthuizen, especially considering that he had been runner-up at the year’s two previous Majors, the PGA Championship and US Open.

But, there is a silver lining for the 38-year-old.

Oosthuizen’s third-place finish was enough to bank him $682 500 – around R10 million – for his week.

Morikawa, meanwhile, netted just under R30 million for his win while Spieth, in second, claimed around R17.3 million.

There was also good news for South African Dylan Frittelli, who finished in fifth place all by himself.

Frittelli was not initially due to play in the tournament and only came in as a late replacement for Louis de Jager, but his solid week saw him collect around R6.9 million for his efforts.
