Local News: Clarity Regarding Licence Renewals

It has come to the attention of the Department of Transport that there exists some uncertainty surrounding various license renewals and expiry deadlines.

“The City of Ekurhuleni incorrectly stated that the end of December is the extended deadline for renewal of motor vehicle licenses that expired during lockdown.”

“This City apologises for the confusion caused.”

According to the directions previously published by the Department of Transport the following deadlines were set out:

Motor vehicle license discs, temporary permits and roadworthy certificates that expired during the period that commenced from 26 March 2020 up to and including 31 May 2020 were deemed to be valid for a period ending on 31 August 2020.

All learner’s licenses, driving license cards, temporary driving licenses and professional driving permits that expired during the period that commenced from 26 March 2020 up to and including 31 August 2020 are deemed to be valid for a period ending on 31 January 2021.

Motor trade number licenses that expired during the period that commenced from 26 March 2020 up to and including 31 May 2020 are deemed to be valid for a period ending on 30 November 2020.

It must be taken into account that no further extensions will be granted and those who fail to renew on time will have to pay applicable penalties or face the necessary repercussions for late renewal.
