George Georgiades got a full house on 9 distinctions. He said he was confident ahead of the release of the matric results. “I am feeling good, a little bit excited and nervous, but I am very confident about my results” he said. He also was the top candidate that scored the highest average (94.2%). He also mentioned that the year was shocking to him with the Covid-19 pandemic and all the challenges they had to face. “The change was definitely a bit shocking, we did not get much of a matric year, we didn’t really get to enjoy our final year.” He hopes to study medicine at Wits.
Head girl, Sofia Ferretti, received a full house of 10 distinctions. As the pupil with the second highest average (92.6%) at the school, she scored 100% in Mathematics. In an interview on Wednesday, Ferretti said she was nervous, but hoped to achieve enough to pursue the studies of her choice.
“I am hoping to score enough to get into medicine, that is the goad, I worked very hard for my subjects. I have not finalised where I would be in the medical field should I get into medicine. I thought plastic surgery because of my love for art”
Saheti Schools’ Class of 2020 achieved 231 distictions. 8 pupils achieved full house distinctions in 8, 9 and 10 subjects.
Executive Head Warwick Taylor comments: “SAHETI’s 2020 Matric results are part of the silver lining in a year beset with uncertainty and hardship. I commend the Matrics for their tenacity and for the effort they put into their studies. I thank the teachers who gave of themselves tirelessly to ensure that the curriculum was covered seamlessly online – they too are the heroes of our 2020 success story.”
