A former president and his wife, will be battling it out in court as the latter demands R170,000 towards maintenance per month. The former president and his wife may not be identified due to a constitutional court ruling. The wife claimed that her husband has hidden assets and demanded that the details of his financial affairs be disclosed to the court.
The maintenance she is claiming will reportedly go towards maintaining her lifestyle, including a luxury vehicle, a personal assistant and three domestic workers. She filed papers on Thursday and made allegations that she suffered emotional abuse at the hand of her husband. She claimed he refused to pay financial support for two years and that third parties interfered in their marriage.
The wife will also be demanding R50,000 towards her legal fees. She claimed that her husband had the financial support and backing of influential individuals from neighbouring states which she will prove to the court. Her monthly maintenance will go towards her three domestic workers, a personal assistant, an au pair and a tutor. The money will also cover medical and other monthly costs. She will also be replacing a luxury vehicle that was lost due to non-payment when her husband withdrew financial support.
