It was just confirmed! An 11-year-old girl was kidnapped outside the school at gunpoint while waiting in line to be sanitized and screened on Wednesday morning.
According to the Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the kidnapping happened at approximately 07:11 on Wednesday.
“It is alleged that an 11-year-old Grade 5 girl learner at E. P. Baumann Primary School in Mayfair, Johannesburg – was kidnapped at gunpoint by three males in a new shaped Silver/White Toyota Yaris with the registration number JS 62 CS GP.
“This happened outside the school gate while she was waiting in line to be sanitized and screened,” Mabona said.
He said the police are investigating circumstances surrounding this matter.
“The GDE pleads with anybody who may have more information pertaining to this incident or may have made any sighting of the vehicle to contact the police,” Mabona said.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi condemned the incident.
“We are pleading with any member of the public who may have witnessed the abduction or knows anything about this incident to approach relevant law enforcement agencies. We condemn the actions of the criminal elements who prey on young learners, and our prayers are with the family and friends of the young learner. Our Psycho-Social Unit has been deployed to the school to assist learners and staff at the school who may be going through the trauma of witnessing this unfortunate incident,” Lesufi said.
The police have not yet confirmed the kidnapping or provided more information.
The South African contacted the school on Wednesday morning, but no one was available for comment yet.
