The former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi, suffered a heart attack in hospital on Wednesday, his lawyer said. “I can confirm that he had a heart attack. The doctors managed to resuscitate and stabilise him but he’s obviously in a very serious condition,” Daniel Witz told Media on Thursday. Debbie Agrizzi, Angelo Agrizzi’s partner, said that he is in a critical condition at a private hospital in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs. “He is currently in critical condition. He has thus far been placed on three different form of life support. We have been informed that he is currently on an internal ventilator. He has also been placed on dialysis, as his kidneys are failing,” Debbie said.
Agrizzi was denied bail last Wednesday by the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court. Agrizzi faces charges of corruption for allegedly making payments to form ANC MP Vincent Smith. Agrizzi only spent one night in prison before he was transferred to hospital. He was rushed to a private hospital on Monday after his condition worsened considerably. At the time, Daniel Wtiz informed media that they had received a call from the correctional services department around noon. “[They said] that the treating doctor at the public hospital advised them that he needs to be transported to a ICU/high care facility as a matter of urgency because is condition was worsening and they didn’t have the facilities to treat him.”
Agrizzi’s lawyers said are appealing the court’s decision to deny bail. Bail was denied as Magistrate Philip Venter deemed Agrizzi a flight risk. In his judgement, Venter said he was satisfied that Agrizzi had the financial means to set up and sustain a “comfortable lifestyle” elsewhere, should he decide to abscond. Agrizzi allegedly withheld information about the value of his assets, and together with his partner Debbie, moved millions of rand offshore and into cryptocurrency accounts.
