The City of Ekurhuleni, working with the local transport and logistic company, Mangethe Express, has brought an early Christmas to school learners at 20 primary schools in Ekurhuleni. The City and Mangethe Express donated 200 pair of shoes to school at an event held in Alberton on 28 November.
Ms Sarah Sekete who works as a Service Delivery Coordinator in the City of Ekurhuleni said the school shoe donation project was aimed at ensuring that learners from needy families do not bank school because office of their economic conditions.
The event was attended by the CEO of Mangethe Express, Mr Henry Zwane, who said the donation will assist learners not to be distracted by their lack of proper shoes so that they focus on their school work.
Speaking to the children, Mr Zwane told them they should not be shy to participate in children’s activities, such a playing, while listening to the guidance of their teachers.
Clementine Simone who is a teacher at Morojaneng Primary School in Katlehong appreciated the donation, and said it comes as a relief as it will contribute to good performance. “Lack of school uniform affects the performance of the learners. a learner who is hungry or wear torn uniform has a short concentration span in a class,” she said.
