An eye for an eye – Phola Park residents

Streets of Phola Park in Mhlongo Section, Thokoza turned bloody after an alleged over speeding, drunk driver ran over a 4-year-old, on Sunday afternoon.

The community was fuelled by anger after they tried to stop the car as soon as they realised that it had knocked over a child and the driver continued to speed. They believed that the driver was attempting to do a hit a run.

The 4-year-old was rushed to Phola Park clinic where he was declared dead upon arrival. The news further aggravated the already angry community that they started assaulting the driver and burnt his car.

Our source who can not be named, witnessed the horrific scene said that he was driving from Phuthadichaba when he saw the mob torching the car.

“The driver of the vehicle hit a little child who died from the incident. The angry mob then torched the man’s vehicle and beat up the man.”
According to our source, the man lost his one eye through the beating from the angry mob. He was then taken to a house nearby until the cops could come to the scene.

“They mob wanted the man dead,” our source furthered detailed.

Tame TIMES has learnt that the driver had recently bought the car and he was from Mandela Section in Katlehong and was around the area to show his friends his new wheels. We have also learnt that the driver was admitted to hospital and in Intensive Care Unit, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
